#1. District 3, Local Seafood Restaurant Ran Bien 5 Review
Local seafood restaurant Ran Bien 5 is located on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street in District 3, which is usually used when going from Ho Chi Minh Airport to the city center. Although the prices are relatively high for a local restaurant, it is popular with locals because it offers a clean atmosphere and a variety of good quality seafood dishes.

As I entered the restaurant, a large tank welcomed me. I could see a variety of live seafood, including crayfish, lobster, king crab, tiger shrimp, river prawn, scallops, clams, penshells, abalone, oysters, flounder, and grouper.

I visited with a friend on a Wednesday evening and sat at an empty table outside. There are several rooms inside the building for private dining. There were only locals around and, as expected, no staff spoke English.

I ordered my favorite Vietnamese beer, Saigon Special. It is a golden lager beer that represents Vietnam and has a refreshing and clean taste with a slightly bitter aftertaste.

The first dish I ordered was Rau Muong Xao Toi(Stir-fried Morning Glory with Garlic). Some local restaurants are quite a few problems with the texture due to handling or cooking problems, but the stir-fried morning glory here were soft without any tough parts, had the right texture, and had a garlic flavor and a moderate savory taste, which gave me great satisfaction.

Com Chien Hai San(Seafood Fried Rice) was the second dish I ordered. Following the stir-fried morning glory, it is one of the decent Vietnamese dishes that most people will like. It contains seafood such as squid and shrimp, and has a mild taste.

The third dish I ordered was Oc Huong Dai Chay Toi(Stir-fried Conchs with Garlic). There are small and large conchs, I recommend ordering the large ones. It was stir-fried in a sweet and salty sauce with garlic flakes and fried pork fat, and it was addictive.

I used a small skewer to gently turn it and take it out, and I was able to easily pull out all the internal organs at once. The large chunks of meat have a chewy texture and a savory yet bitter taste, and the sweet and salty sauce makes it impossible not to order this.

The fourth and final dish we ordered was Tom Su Nuong Moi(Shrimp Skewers). This is the most popular at this restaurant. I ordered 500g, they grilled about ten of them.

You can get plastic gloves and peel them yourself, but it's much easier to tip the staff about 50,000VND and ask them to peel them for you. The large, salty shrimp are a great accompaniment to beer.

The quality of food at Ran Bien 5 is definitely better than the cheap local seafood restaurants in the neighborhood. The prices are a bit on the high side. But If you want to enjoy a clean local seafood dishes with someone special, I think it is worth a visit.

#2. Ran Bien 5 - Menu
Ran Bien 5, a local seafood restaurant, serves a variety of seafood dishes such as lobster, king crab, grouper, salmon, and crayfish. They also have a variety of shellfish dishes such as grilled and steamed oysters, scallops, clams, and penshells, as well as fried rice and stir-stir-fried vegetables. The menu includes English and pictures, so you won’t have any trouble ordering. The prices are generally quite high compared to other local restaurants, but the prices of drinks such as beer are not bad.

I visited with a friend for dinner on a Wednesday evening and ordered as follows:
Com Chien Hai San: 168,000VND
Oc Huong Dai Chay Toi(300g): 389,400VND
Tom Su Nuong Moi(500g): 269,000VND
Rau Muong Xao Toi: 78,000VND
Saigon Special: 22,000VND x 6 EA = 132,000VND
Nuoc Suoi: 12,000VND
Khan Lanh: 3,000VND x 2 EA = 6,000VND
The total amount was 1,141,392VND, including 8% general VAT and 10% alcohol VAT. Even though I only ordered cheap food considering the cost, it was still quite expensive for two people to eat at a local restaurant. However, considering the restaurant atmosphere, staff service, and food quality, I think it wasn't that bad.
