#1. District 3, Vietnamese Restaurant Bun Cha Cuu Long 2007 Review

Vietnamese restaurant Bun Cha Cuu Long 2007 is located near Tao Dan Park behind the Independence Palace in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City. The location of the restaurant is a bit ambiguous, but it is not too far from the Ben Thanh Market and Bui Vien Walking Street. It is an attractive restaurant where you can taste authentic Hanoi-style Bun Cha at an affordable price.

I visited on a Thursday evening to eat alone and took a seat in the corner. It was a small restaurant with 8 tables for indoor dining, and the interior was clean, unlike cheap local restaurants. There were many pictures of the owner on the wall. I don’t know if she was a national or regional beauty queen, but she seemed to be a former Miss Vietnam.

As the interior of the restaurant was clean, they seemed to be very attentive to the cleanliness of the cutlery. After I sat down and ordered my food, they gave me a wet wipe and my cutlery in a glass filled hot water. In the 10 years I've lived in Vietnam, this is the first time I've seen a restaurant that pays this much attention to cutlery.

Since I was going to have Hanoi-style bun cha, I ordered Bia Ha Noi(Hanoi Beer). It is a deep golden lager beer with a refreshing taste and a bitter aftertaste that goes well with oily foods.

For dinner, I ordered the restaurant's signature dish, Special Ha Noi Kebab Rice Noodle. It comes with rice noodles, and various vegetables, along with marinated pork and meatballs in nuoc cham sauce.

There were charcoal-grilled marinated pork and meatballs in the nuoc cham sauce made with nuoc mam(fish sauce). The Special is 20,000 VND more expensive than the Regular, but it comes with more pork and meatballs.

The nuoc cham sauce here is mild and public taste, but if you want a stronger flavor, you can ask the staff to add more nuoc mam. Adding chopped chili peppers to the sweet and sour sauce adds spiciness, and eating it with the meat with the right amount of rice noodles and vegetables was very delicious.

I additionally ordered two Northern Traditional Fried Spring Rolls(Cha Gio) to eat with the bun cha. The crispy texture of the fried rice paper and the taste of the various ingredients inside were quite good. This was also nice when eaten with the noodles and vegetables in the nuoc cham sauce.
