#1. District 1, Le Thanh Ton Yakiniku Restaurant YAKIMARU Review
YAKIMARU, a yakiniku restaurant, is located across from the famous izakaya TORISHO in an alley in Le Thanh Ton Japanese Town, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. This is a place where you can often see Japanese men eating alone even on weekdays, and it's a great place to have a drink with grilled meat alone at a reasonable price.
I visited alone on a Saturday evening and sat down at a bar table on the first floor. The first floor has a bar table, making it great for dining alone or with two people. If there are more than two people, you can also eat at the regular table on the second floor.
Since I was at a Japanese restaurant, I ordered a Sapporo draft beer and started the dinner. It is a uniquely Japanese bright golden lager with a subtle aroma and savory taste. It has a strong refreshing sensation and a clean finish, so it goes well with oily yakiniku.
For my first dish, I ordered one serving of Pork Belly. Five thin pieces of pork belly sprinkled with pepper powder and seasoned salt were served. It is quite cheap at 79,000 VND, and although the quantity is small, the meat quality looks good.
I had to grill the meat myself on a small grill in front of me until it was golden brown. The small grill was surprisingly powerful and cooked the thin meat in an instant, so it seemed like it wouldn't be a problem for two people to eat together.
Pour an appropriate amount of the sweet yakiniku sauce on the table and dip the meat into it. It would have been great to have ssamjang, but it was disappointing that only a container of yakiniku sauce was on the table.
For my second dish, I ordered one serving of Beef Loin. The yakiniku sauce was spread on the meat and the visual and smell were really nice.
Because the firepower of the grill is strong and the meat cooks quickly, I grilled two pieces of meat the eating speed. The slightly sweet seasoning was delicious, but the texture of the sirloin was a little disappointing as it was tougher than it looked.
The atmosphere was nice and the meat tasted good, so I ordered a glass of Iichiko barley soju. Although it has a high alcohol content of 25 degrees, it has a sweet taste with a subtle aroma and a smooth. They also sell Korean soju, but even though it is expensive, I prefer Japanese soju, which is more delicious.
For my third dish, I ordered one serving of Beef Outside Skirt. Obviously, as the price is high a bit, the texture and quality of the meat is different. Just like Beef Loin, it is spread yakiniku sauce.
As expected, Beef Outside Skirt is soft and delicious without any odor. Next time I visit, I will have to order Beef Outside Skirt for two. Since it is a yakiniku restaurant, there are no free side dishes such as kimchi or ssam, so I was a bit bored eating only the meat.
For fourth and final dish, I ordered Cold Ramen. The taste of the broth is almost the same as Korean cold noodles, and it contains thick and chewy noodles, kimchi, eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. The kimchi in the cold ramen tasted better than I expected because it had a spicy and cool Korean taste rather than the sweet Japanese taste.
#2. Yakiniku Restaurant YAKIMARU Menu
YAKIMARU, a yakiniku restaurant, sells grilled foods such as beef, pork, intestines, and sausages, as well as sides such as white rice, rice bowls, salads, ssam, kimchi, and cold ramen. Overall, the menu prices are low, but the grilled items are especially cheap, and although the portions are small, there is a big advantage of being able to enjoy a variety of meats at a cost-effective price.
I visited alone for dinner on a Saturday evening and ordered the following.
Beef Loin: 120,000VND
Beef Outside Skirt: 161,000VND
Pork Belly: 79,000VND
Cold Ramen: 141,000VND
Sapporo Draft Beer: 60,000VND x 2 EA = 120,000VND
Iichiko Barley Soju(Glass): 100,000VND
I was able to have a light drink with grilled meat for a reasonable price of 760,400VND, including 8% general VAT and 10% alcohol VAT. YAKIMARU is a great restaurant to visit for a meal or drink alone. The overall menu is reasonably priced and the taste is good, making it a truly attractive restaurant.
