#1. District 2, Thao Dien Bagel Bar & Cafe Saigon Bagel Review
Bagel Bar & Cafe Saigon Bagel is located in an alley in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City. The prices are a bit steep considering the cost of Ho Chi Minh City, but the quality of the bagels is high, making it particularly popular with Westerners living nearby.
I visited for a solo meal on a Thursday evening. The restaurant was surprisingly spacious inside, even larger than it looked from the outside, and there was even a dining area on the second floor.
The only beers were Saigon Red and Tiger. I personally prefer Saigon Special, but they weren't available, so I ordered Saigon Red. This classic Vietnamese lager is characterized by its rich flavor and fizzing texture.
For my first meal, I ordered a BLT, and the bagel I chose EVERYTHING, that was topped with everything: garlic, onions, cheese, jalapeños, and more. Between the bagels were bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise.
The crispy exterior and soft interior of the bagel combined the salty, rich flavors of the grilled bacon with the fresh vegetables, creating a satisfying meal. The filling was more generous than I expected, making it more than enough for a full meal.
For my second meal, I ordered the Salmon Gravlax(Loaded), and chose the JALAPENO CHEESE bagel. The bagel was topped with cream cheese, salmon gravlax, onions, basil, tomatoes, capers, and olive oil.
The smooth cream cheese and salty, oily salmon gravlax were balanced beautifully by the freshness of onions, basil, and tomatoes, and the tart, savory flavor of capers. I chose the Loaded, which added more toppings, and the portion was definitely generous.
#2. Bagel Bar & Cafe Saigon Bagel - Menu
Saigon Bagel is a bit pricey considering Ho Chi Minh City's prices, but the high quality of its bagels makes it particularly popular with Westerners living nearby. They offer a variety of bagel varieties, from plain to garlic, cheese, jalapeño cheese, and onion. The variety of fillings also allows for a variety of bagel sandwich combinations. For a hearty and delicious meal, opt for the Loaded, which adds even more toppings to your bagel.
I visited for dinner alone on Thursday evening and ordered as follows:
Salmon Gravlax(Loaded): 259,000VND
BLT: 132,000VND
Saigon Lager: 25,000VND x 2 EA = 50,000VND
The total price was 441,000VND, which is quite expensive considering the cost of Ho Chi Minh City, but considering the level of the bagel sandwich, it was more than enough and I was able to have a very satisfying meal. Saigon Bagel is one of the few bagel shops in downtown Ho Chi Minh City, and if you want to taste a real bagel, I recommend visiting this place.
