#1. District 2, Thao Dien Handmade Burger RELISH & SONS Review
RELISH & SONS is one of Ho Chi Minh's famous handmade burger shops, located alley in the Thao Dien street in District 2. This is a place where you can taste a special burger with a distinct charm. There are more foreign customers than locals. They sell one BURGER OF THE MONTH every month, which is a burger with a few additional toppings added to the original burger. If you are having trouble deciding which burger to order, I highly recommend ordering this.
RELISH & SONS is a small, cozy restaurant with a bar table and a few chairs in the corner. I visited on a Wednesday evening to eat alone, and I was the only one eating in the store. Usually, there are many customers visiting the store for lunch on the weekends, and on weekdays, they mostly do delivery.
They sell two types of beer, Tiger beer and Huda draft beer, but I think it is overly expensive at 70,000VND per glass. Anyway, I can't eat a homemade burger without drinking beer, so I ordered a can of Tiger.
I went with the Bacon & Jalapeno Smash Burger, the burger of the month, and the combo upgrade of Cheesy Bacon Fries on the side. If you plan on ordering a drink and a side, ordering the combo is a bit more cost-effective, and you can get a beer for just 10,000VND.
RELISH & SONS’s prices are generally on the higher side compared to other restaurants in Ho Chi Minh, but the quality of their burgers is so good that I had no major complaints. The Bacon & Jalapeno Smash Burger was a well-made burger with an Australian Angus beef patty, molasses-cured bacon, hickory-smoked cheddar cheese, jalapeno pickles, and ranch dressing, all on a homemade potato bun.
The soft and chewy potato bun held its shape perfectly throughout the meal without getting soggy or falling apart. The juicy and heavy flavors of the beef patty, bacon, and cheddar cheese were perfectly balanced with the refreshing of ranch dressing and jalapeno pickles.
Cheesy Bacon Fries, which I ordered as a side upgrade, were simply french fries topped with bacon bits, cheddar cheese, and ranch dressing, but the violent visual alone gave me great satisfaction. The salty and rich taste of the french fries went well with beer.
It wasn't on the menu, but I saw a Huda draft beer dispenser, so I ordered one right away. It's a lager beer from Hue in central Vietnam, and has a rich, clean finish and a refreshing taste that goes well with oily foods.
RELISH & SONS may seem a bit on the pricey side for me considering the cost of living in Vietnam, but the high quality of the burgers and sides definitely left me satisfied. However, I can't help but think that the prices of drinks like beer are excessive.

RELISH & SONS is an attractive restaurant where you can taste special burgers that are unique to this place. They sell one BURGER OF THE MONTH every month with a few additional toppings on the original burger, and I highly recommend trying this. Overall, considering the cost of Vietnam, the prices are quite high, and especially the prices of drinks such as beer are too high.
I visited alone for dinner on a Wednesday evening and ordered as follows:
Bacon & Jalapeno Smash Burger: 200,000VND
Combo(Chip & Drink): 60,000VND
Cheesy Bacon Fries(Up Combo): 75,000VND
Tiger Beer(Up Combo): 10,000VND
Huda Draft Beer: 70,000VND
The total amount was 449,800VND, including 8% general VAT and 10% alcohol VAT. Considering the local prices in Vietnam, it is not cheap for a meal alone, but RELISH & SONS's burgers and sides are very attractive. The only complaint is the price of the drinks... I think it would be a more attractive store if they sold a variety of craft beers while maintaining a similar price range to other restaurants.
