#1. District Binh Thanh, Pham Viet Chanh Street Japanese Restaurant MIO SOBA Review
Japanese restaurant MIO SOBA is located on a corner of an alley on Pham Viet Chanh Street in District Binh Thanh, which is called Little Tokyo or the second Japanese town in Ho Chi Minh. Although it has only been open for a short time, it is especially popular with Japanese people living nearby because here can enjoy authentic Japanese soba at a reasonable price. The signature hand-made(Teuchi) soba is limited to 10 pieces per day, so if you have the chance, you should definitely try it.

It's a small, cozy restaurant with a bar table and a few sitting tables. I visited on a Friday evening to dine alone, and most of the tables were occupied by Japanese.

I took a seat at the bar table and immediately ordered a Sapporo draft beer. They also served a few other alcoholic beverages, such as Japanese shochu and highball, at reasonable prices.

I ordered the hand-made zaru soba, of which only ten are sold a day, with Aji Tamago(Half-boiled Egg) as a topping and Yasai Tempura(Vegetable Tempura) as a side. The noodles came out a little slower than the others.

The Yasai Tempura(Vegetable Tempura) ordered as a side dish consisted of kent pumpkin, okra, shiitake mushrooms, eggplant, and sweet potato. The tempura, fried in clean oil and covered in a thin, clear-colored batter, looked quite appetizing. The taste was okay, but the slightly hard texture of the ingredients was a bit disappointing.

I ordered Aji Tamago(Half-boiled Egg) as a topping, but I'm not sure if it goes well with zaru soba, but I personally like half-boiled egg, so I ordered it. This was also good.

The Teuchi Zaru Soba(Hand-made Zaru Soba) that I ordered came out a little late. Compared to regular soba, the noodles didn't soggy as well and had a chewier texture, which was appealing. It's a small difference that those who aren't sensitive to texture might not notice. However, I think this small difference is an important point that can change the level of the food.

MIO SOBA's soba is authentic Japanese soba, with almost no sweetness, a strong aroma and savory flavor of katsuobushi, and especially a strong saltiness, so it may not suit the taste of non-Japanese foreigners. However, for those who know the taste of real Japanese soba, this is a restaurant that is bound to be an attractive soba restaurant.

#2. Japanese Restaurant MIO SOBA Menu
Soba restaurant MIO SOBA serves zaru soba, kake soba(warm soup soba), and salad soba as its main dishes, and you can add toppings such as tanuki(tempura crumbs), kitsune(fried tofu), and eggs. As for sides, they sell inari sushi, egg rolls, vegetable tempura, shrimp tempura, chicken tempura, tofu tempura, and yam tempura. They also serve a reasonably priced and well-composed lunch set, so it's a good place to visit during lunchtime.

I visited alone for dinner on a Friday evening and ordered as follows:
Yasai Tempura: 80,000VND
Aji Tamago: 30,000VND
Zaru Soba(Teuchi): 170,000VND
Sapporo Draft Beer: 60,000VND
I was able to have a satisfying meal for a reasonable price of 340,000VND. Of course, it is different from the Korean-style cold buckwheat noodles, which are sweet and sour, but when I taste the chewy texture of the handmade noodles and the deep flavor of the katsuobushi in the soup, I can see why Japanese people living in Ho Chi Minh visit this place. MIO SOBA is one of the few soba restaurants in Ho Chi Minh, and it is an attractive restaurant where you can taste authentic Japanese soba.
