#1. District Binh Thanh, Pham Viet Chanh Street Local Restaurant Oc Sua Review
Local restaurant Oc Sua is located in front of Pham Viet Chanh Apartment on Pham Viet Chanh Street, District Binh Thanh, which is called the second Japanese street or Little Tokyo in Ho Chi Minh City. It is close to the center of Ho Chi Minh City and has relatively low real estate prices, so it is an area where many locals live, and there are many good local restaurants. This is one of them. It is a place where you can enjoy a variety of local Vietnamese food and beer at a low price.
This is a local restaurant that opens at 4pm and only serves dinner, and you can always see a lot of locals eating there even on weekdays. I visited with my family on a Friday evening and sat at an outdoor table.
Originally, I only drank Saigon Special, one of best local beer, but the recently released 333 Pilsner is also quite good. It is a light, smooth, refreshing beer with a clean and attractive taste.
After taking a seat, they brought out Dau Phong(Peanuts) on the table first before ordering. It is not expensive at 20,000VND, and it was a good snack to have with beer while waiting for the food.
The first dish I ordered was Dau Hu Chuen Nuoc Mam(Crispy Fried Tofu with Fish Sauce). It's a simple dish of fried tofu on top of vegetables stir-fried in Nuoc Mam sauce, but it tastes quite good. It's really delicious when dipped in the accompanying soy sauce.
The second dish I ordered was Oc Houng Sot Trung Muoi(Snails with Salted Egg Sauce). The addictive taste of the sweet and salty yellow thick sauce made with egg yolk and salt was attractive. Dipping other foods in this sauce was also quite good.
The third dish I ordered was So Diep Nuong Mo Hanh(Grilled Scallops with Scallion). It was a cheap price and about 10 small scallops were served on a plate. The seasoning was good, but the scallops were too small and not fresh, which was disappointing.
The fourth dish I ordered was Com Chien Hai San(Seafood Fried Rice). It's a safe dish that's hard to go wrong with, and it was quite tasty when I sprinkled some spicy and salty soy sauce with some chopped chilis.
The fifth dish I ordered was Ngheu Hap Sa(Clam Soup). It has a similar taste to Korean clam soup, and the lemongrass adds a refreshing and cool flavor. It goes better with soju than beer.
The sixth dish I ordered was Oc Bulot Nuong(Grilled Whelk). Eight large whelks are grilled on a charcoal grill, and the shells are extremely hot, so have to be careful not to burn hands while taking out the meat from a shell.
There was a large piece of meat hidden inside the shell, and it was soft and had a unique sweetness that was not as tough or fishy as it looked. It went well with the wasabi sauce that came with it.
The last seventh dish I ordered was Ca Cam Nuong(Grilled Amberjack). A large fish was cut in half and grilled. The spicy and sweet seasoning on the outside was really nice. There was a lot of flesh and it was easy to separate from the bones, making it easy to eat, but it was a bit dry because it was cooked for too long.

Local restaurant Oc Sua is a good place to eat a variety of Vietnamese food at a reasonable price. It is not bad for a meal, and it is even better for a drink. The price of drinks is also cheaper than other local restaurants in the area, so it is a charming neighborhood restaurant to visit for a drink without feeling burdened.
I visited with my family on Friday evening and ordered the following for dinner:

Nuoc Ngot(Soft Drink): 15,000VND
Nuoc Suoi(Water): 12,000VND

333 Pilsner: 20,000VND x 2 EA = 40,000VND
Dau Phong(Peanuts): 20,000VND
Khan Lanh: 2,000VND x 6 EA = 12,000VND
For a total of 722,000VND, I was able to enjoy a variety of local dishes. Oc Sua is an attractive restaurant that is worth visiting if you live nearby because the food is cheap, the taste is not bad, and the drinks are cheaper than other local restaurants in the area.
