#1. District 7, Phu My Hung Korean Restaurant DODOHAN SAMGYETANG Review
DODOHAN SAMGYETANG is located across the street from Matchandeul BBQ near the Sky Garden apartment complex in Phu My Hung, District 7, Ho Chi Minh. In Ho Chi Minh City, where there were no proper samgyetang restaurants, this one recently opened and is gaining explosive popularity among Koreans living nearby, as it offers the same taste as in Korea. Even considering that samgyetang is a bit pricey, the basic oriental medicine samgyetang is quite expensive at 350,000VND.
This place has been open for a short time, so it has a clean interior. The first floor is a hall, and there are rooms on the upper floors, so it looks like a good place to have a private meal with guests. My wife and I visited on Sunday lunchtime and sat in the hall on the first floor.
When we ordered food, they gave us cold herbal tea along with the side dishes. It had a very healthy taste that was different from Vietnamese Tra Da(Iced Tea). It had a slight herbal scent, but it wasn't too bitter, so I don't think it would be a problem for young children to drink it.
The side dishes were young radish kimchi, white kimchi, mustard leaf kimchi, radish kimchi, carrots/cucumbers/peppers & ssamjang. They were nothing special, but they went well with samgyetang. The radish kimchi was especially refreshing and delicious.
My wife ordered the basic menu, oriental medicine samgyetang. It was a large earthenware pot filled with broth made from 12 kinds of oriental medicines, including ginseng, angelica, astragalus, schizandra berry, and licorice, boiled for over 12 hours, as well as chicken and glutinous rice, so it was quite a generous portion.
I ordered the spicy oriental medicine samgyetang with spicy sauce added to the oriental medicine samgyetang. It wasn't as spicy as Shin Ramyun, but it wasn't as intensely spicy as I expected, so I was a little disappointed. It would be better if customers could choose the level of spiciness when ordering.
The spiciness wasn't as expected, but the broth and chicken were very tasty. The samgyetang broth here has a thick texture, and the rich broth made by boiling the whole chicken together with oriental herbal medicine was attractive.
The tender and chewy meat of the well-boiled young chicken that easily separates from the bones was delicious even on its own, but it was even more delicious when eaten with salt and pepper. The amount of meat was generous, and the chicken's stomach was filled with glutinous rice, which was enough for man.
DODOHAN SAMGYETANG is the only restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City that specializes in samgyetang. It may seem expensive thinking the cost of living in Vietnam, but considering the taste and quantity, you will be more than satisfied.
#2. DODOHAN SAMGYETANG Menu
DODOHAN SAMGYETANG is the only samgyetang restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City, and sells various kinds of samgyetang, such as oriental medicine samgyetang, nurungji samgyetang, and curry samgyetang, as well as dakbokkeumtang(spicy braised chicken). Considering the cost of living in Vietnam, it may seem quite expensive, but you can’t help but be satisfied with the taste and quantity. The prices of drinks, including alcohol, are also a bit higher than other Korean restaurants in the area.
My wife and I visited for lunch on Sunday and ordered the following:
Oriental Medicine Samgyetang(Chicken Soup): 350,000VND
Spicy Samgyetang: 360,000VND
We had a satisfying meal for a total of 710,000VND. DODOHAN SAMGYETANG is the only samgyetang restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City and is an attractive place where you can taste various kinds of samgyetang such as original samgyetang, nurungji samgyetang, and curry samgyetang, as well as dakbokkeumtang(spicy braised chicken).
